glen...disco!
Glen!....Disco!
This one goes back to my short but eventful stint at the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner newspaper in a time of my life when I was desperately searching for romance. During the years between getting fired at UCLA and trying to work for my Dad I was a lost soul in the mean old world of LA. Finally, aftter scraping bottom I was taken in by Timo and got back on my feet enough to get an MSLS from California State University at Fullerton. The big lie of Propositon 13 passed and the possibility of getting a job in public libraries became impossible. So, I was forced to accept the low-wage post at the Herald where I worked in their library that was being rehabilitated by newspaper veteran Anne Sausedo. I met many interesting people and being just 30 years old I was always hunting for a woman to call my girlfriend. All of the ladies at the Herald passed through the library and I found most to be inaccessible, attached or just crazy. Journalism is a terribly stressful occupation and many of these gals were blind to my charms. However, in the advertising department there was a pretty sexy young flirt name Diane who flaunted her young body and once squeezed my upper leg during a lunch at Corky's bar across the street. It was in the middle of the disco craze and I dubbed her Disco Diane since she was ready for clubbing and party-time in her come hither words. Everything she said was a tease and eventually I did begin to ask her out but she ducked and weaved around most of my invitations. I used to put captions on photos for comic effect and she liked them so she continued being seductive but only to pump up her ego while I fell for the tease. Once she flounced into the library, throwing open the doors and shouting "Glen! Disco!" I told Greg the story, as I did about any attempt to woo women and he thought it hilarious. He often would blurt out those two words that reminded me that I should not let the little frankfurter do my thinking for me.I left the Her-Ex late in 1979 but had many a fun memory under the dome.
