A History of the Creason dogs
The History of Creason dogs
Stormy- a little black dog I never saw in dog-person but he seemed to represent love between my parents as when they were affectionate they might call eachother stormy.
Fritz- a brief family guardian Doberman Pinscher who may have been around when I was a baby but he perished after eating snarol pellets in our yard.
Pretzel- my earliest dog recollection and the beginning of a Creason affection for weiner dogs. He was a black dachsund who saw a kitchen door ajar and darted into eternity since he was hit by a pickup truck heading for the park.
Hansel- the male part of a pair of dachsunds who came to us after the traumatic loss of Pretzel. They figured in some family lore but Hansel had a bad habit of pissing on everything when he was allowed in the house. BC took him one day supposedly to Rancho Los Alamitos and gave him away.
Gretel- a longtime beloved female brown dachsund who lived in three houses with us and was an exceptionally loving and sweet dog. She was part of the terrible Pokey accident when our pet tortoise wandered into the incinerator and was baked. She and Hansel ate some exposed parts before the old guy was discovered. Gretel lasted until we returned in triumph to Annetta avenue after the La Habra period and just ran out of gas when I was a teenager.
Eloise- BC brought her home when we were in La Habra pretty much as a gift for Christine. She was a good dog and Chris and I called her Johnny Roo for some unknown reason. She died fairly young of natural causes but was a good friend of Gretel and patient subject of many of Christine's dress-up parties.
Brigette- the first of the poodles who ran the joint for many years. When Gretel died I was heartbroken and BC came home from work one afternoon with something hidden under his coat. He pulled out a poodle puppy that fruastrated me since he claimed the dog was for me. What kind of teenager has a poodle? Brigette bonded with my Mom within days and became her dog who brought great happiness during the return to 9230 Annetta and even out to the Long Beach migration. Brigette set a tone by taking a runny shit in Mom's new Cadillac to christen the fancy car Mom guarded closely. She also gave me a scar on my uppper lip by biting me deeply when I teased her with a biscuit one night. Mom, seeing copiuous blood from the wound "serves you right"
Cognac- or Coners or Wardoggy was the product of mating Brigette who had three healthy pups that were known as "the kids" Cognac was a good dog and sometimes was goaded into growling and threatening his sister with the encouragement of Christine and I. Poor little guy ran out of the house on Terraine one night and made it over to PCH where he was hit and killed. I truly broke BC's heart.
Frou Frou- or Scrubby was a fun little girl pup of Brigette, sister of Cognac. She was well-loved and very, very affectionate. She loved to lick faces and the dog worshipping family allowed such behavior even when othter said "ewwwww" Scrubby lived a long poodle life and died of natural causes in Long Beach.
Fred- was the most celebrated and beloved of all Creason dogs. I have no idea where he came from but he was BC's best boy. Fred was a strange mix of poodle and some kind of spaniel. He was not small like the poodles and his tongue was extraordinarily long for any dog. He was allowed to sit up at the dinner table and BC fed him scraps after holding them in his mouth to insure they were not too hot. Fred achieved legendary status when he ate a gram of hashiish I was holding for Craig Felch in 1969 duiring Open City. The dilemna was that taking him to the vet would incriminate me and if he had died I would have been disowned. Luckily, he flopped onto his side and took a helluva great psychedelic nap and lived on past the move to Long Beach. When he passed on to rainbow bridge BC mourned him so deeply he had an oil painting done of him that hangs in my basement to this day.
Tickets- was an excellent black mixed breed dog who stayed at Dad's office and was a joy to hang around with. I believe he just showed up one day in the parking lot and hit the Creason jackpot. He was cared for my David Terrazas and had a damn good time in this world.
Maggie- good dogs who were absolutely ill-suited for life in a small yard with older humans who could not give them enough exercise. They were Aerdales who were banned from the house and when they managed to sneak in Mom would scream "There's an aerdale in the house!"
Abby- sister of Maggie of the Aerdale experiment. Through no fault of their own they had very oily coats and would leave a powerful scent on your hand when you petted them. The aerdales were an example like Pepe the parrot who were failed BC experiments of pets that just did not fit in the circumstances. Both Maggy and Abby lived full lives and died peacefully.
Scooby- probably the least loveable and most ill-tempered dog in the annals of Creason canines Scooby was the first Shih Tzu that ran around Terraine. He is probably most famous for getting drop-kicked by Christine when he bit toddler Jeff on the face for little reason. It seemed to leave him unharmed and allowed him years more of being a pain in the ass.
Annie- a rather mysterious pet dog who was loved by Mom who grew so attached to her that it caused some kind of rift with Dad. One day for pretty lousy reasons he took the dog in the car and gave her away to some place or someone. Mom never forgave him.
Peggy- part of the pair of sweet little Shih-Tzus who were very popular with Mom and Dad. They were playful and cute along with the ability to take car rides and short jaunts to a pocket park nearby. The hair-trigger barking mechanism was somewhat annoying but the stereo yapping became the "sound of Terraine."
Amber- sister of Peggy who was a carbon copy in cuteness and vocalization. They unfortunately lived way beyond their full-functioning and finished off their career like two little malfunctioning gremlins. The made Mom and Dad happy which was the reason for all of the animals.
Grover- an adopted, goofy Golden Retriever who had once belonged to Joel Chernoff. He had endured being in the apartment for days after the death of his master. However, Mom gave him a good home despite almost killing him after he tried to eat a possum. He was a big doofus who spread joy and went to rainbow bridge with his new family around him. He came to represent his orginal owner and his leash with collar are in my basement.
Gracie- the grand dame of Creason dogs who was a great bringer of joy and loyal to the max. Gracie was quite stout because of the treat feasting she accepted each day but her trick of sitting up with paws flexed was very hard to ignore. She had the ultimate honor of seeing her beloved human and mother to us all go off to her own rainbow bridge. Gracie went on to rule the home of sister Cheryl and was treated like the royalty she was to her final act. No doubt he was met in doggie heaven by someone we loved.
