  Techno-logic skips a generation

"the child is the father of the tech man"

In the full seventy years of knowng Greg, we saw so many technological advances it  boggles the well-wrinkled brain

       Let us see:

transistor radios that allowed even kids to hear the great pop songs of the 50's and 60's along with the golden voice of Vin Scully who made Dodger games sound like a Greek drama. Greg used to go to sleep in the boys bunk bed on McNerney with his transistor tucked under his pillow playing stuff like "Runaway," "Midnight in Moscow,: or "Love is Blue." There were still vacuum tube radios at grandma's house but you could not put them in your jacket pocket. When you visited Dodger stadium in the early years you could hear Vinny's voice echoing across the ballpark from all the transistor radios.

Portable stereos that date back before Greg's childhood but being able to load a Zenith into the car with a pile of LPs was incredibly novel. The huge old consoles from the past were put in a front room to stay.

Battery operated tape recorders. As reported earlier the beginnings of my friendship with Greg was on a visit by the Sheehy boys to our home in La Habra. I always was immature for my age so my sense of humor probably appealed to the younger boy.

Color TV.
When my Dad brought home a metal Color TV it was a revelation. We watched Jack Latham on channel 4 and were blown away by scenes from the Ponderosa on Sunday nights. This was a 1960's introduction that was still pretty new well into the decade. Lots of families were still B&W. BC always wanted to be first in the tech stuff.

Cassette tapes.
This one was very important to me since I was always restless and wanted to hear certain songs on albums and skip the duds. Even in my pad on Seminole I would jump up and down changing records. Casettes became one my most loved hobbies and I loved to make mix tapes with a friend in mind. Greg dug such creations plus the fact you could take them with you and groove as you drove. The true value of Cassette mixtapes were cemented in the great road trips of the Cousins.

VHS
this did for TV and Movies what casssettes did for music. With this great advancement you could pause, rewind to re-watch key scenes and even tape dialogue for use in mixtapes. Thus Greg could watch the same shows a dozen time.

Personal computers,
we both got early Macs I believe with like 562k memories but there is not need to discuss what came after. I throw in Smart TVs which can be explained in the following paragraph.

Stopping at cell phones I just mention the fact that Greg Sheehy who was a highly educated and intelligent man who peformed incredibly precise and complicated tasks in his work with blueprints and building sites seemed baffled by the settings of his phone. He never seemed to understand spell-check and often sent incomprehensible messages that were products of unwanted changes. He was also perplexed by using his TV remotes which many times led to heated curses and calls to his son for rescue. Cell phones should have their own post
