Put them in depends and shut.

Put them in depends and shut.

So much to say about aging that is both sad and funny, especially since the spectre of decrepitude stands at the bathroom door. When I was little we used to look at people who were grandmas and grandpas as if they allowed themselves to be tottering shells of the people we saw on TV. When Mom and Dad reached 50 we thought them over the hill and near the end. Another problem was our obsession with Sports and aging athletes who were considered geriatric in their late 30's. Koufax and Drysdale retired when they were 30 and 32 after careers that portrayed them as super-human. Again, the "lost generation" who were our parents parents looked like old people when they were 60. They probably wore false choppers, some kind of glasses and maybe used canes to get around. My sister saw my grandma putting on her nightgown when she was 70ish and was shocked by the flaps that had once been breasts. Recently, several of my "young" friends have entered assisted living communities and the much more spry than I Lissy is talking about her future in "a home." I have had the experiennce of visiting my dear Father-in-Law Romo at a serious, expensive facility that made me very depressed since lot of residents were just checking their biological clocks waiting for old Mister Reaper to come and blow the final whistle. Unintentionally I have also learned about adult diapers and the huge incease in their use as my Boomer bros. reckon with wrecked prostates and the old hippy chicks deal with the forces of gravity or an unfortunate sneeze. In the next ten years these secret sops will reach 50 billion in sales for just the U.S. So to laugh to keep from crying I am brought back to the great Ziesing thesaurus that was increased by the dry wit of one Maude Sinclair Adams or Minnie Ziesing who cruised to 90 with sang froide regarding age. To signify the end of an argument or concept the Ziesings just use the term "shut." So when giving advise on dealing with an aging husband or any old cantankerous man Minnie would say "put him in depends and shut." Needless to say, the delighted Greg quoted his Minnie-in-law during any such discussions and I believe Min's daughters continue to put them in depends and shut.
