Oh Johnny you've ruined Sis’ dinner party
Oh Johnny you've ruined Sis’ dinner party
As always I welcome editing by the Ziesing family but this was a sorry scene in their history but one of triumph in mine. The original event involved a formal dinner party on the Main Line with Minnie hosting a feast for friends. Proper decorum was expected but a certain fellow with the first name John showed up profoundly impaired by excessive booze. The man known well by the family compounded his inappropriate condition by barfing on the linen tablecloth in front of him and causing a scene that put an end to appetites and gaiety at the table. In attempting to limit the dining catastrophe one lady relative toweled off the man's foul smelling face and admonished him with the ladylike and accurate "oh Johnny, you've ruined Sis' dinner party!" His bad boozing and mishaps are legend around that part of Pennsylvania and this was remembered sadly by all including the "nurse" who administered to the old sot. Greg liked to repeat the story and we uttered the line many a time to signify someone really messing up a situation. We were at a Dodgers versus the hated Yankees inter-league game and cruised into the 9th leading 7-3 when big fat supposed to be closer Jonathon Broxton came into the game and sent over meatball after another up to the pinstriped men who tied it up with 4 in the final inning. In our frustration I looked over at Greg and said "oh Johnny, you ruined Sis' dinner party" and he almost wet himself laughing. Later at a less decorous dinner at Bone he repeated the story to Minnie who laughed heartily. I find that moment as one of glory for my devotion to the great book of Ziesing lore.
