I’ll find an easy way
I’ll find an
easy way
If you heard or read my eulogy for my longest running best friend in the world you know this tale. It is one of my favorites because it involved two of the people I loved the most in my many spins around this damn globe. John Sheehy was lecturing his teenage son about the importance of hard work and sacrifice. He wanted to make sure the kid was ready to take on the hard cold world and the difficulty of making your way into adulthood. Wise ass Greg listened to the spiel of the Pop and then casually and confidently told him "I'll find an easy way." I can't even write this without guffawing with glee as I was brought up by one of these depression generation men who knew what hard work and sacrifice were all about and how wise asses get eaten alive in the real world. John was a World War II veteran who saw some combat and recieved a purple heart for his injuries suffered on D-day. He also got up before sunrise every day to report to his job at United States Postal Service which at that time was probably at the Terminal Annex in downtown LA. He managed with his sweat and toil to buy a house in South Gate and support three children and his wonderful wife Grace. To imagine his already ruddy complexion turn beet red at this remark is just hilarious beyond words. I have nothing but respect and love for both of these men but this time my boon companion Greg proved an old saying John used to repeat "there are more horse's asses than there are horses." My they both rest in groovy peace.
